In a bold move, Adobe announced plans to enhance Premiere Pro by integrating plug-ins for emerging third-party AI video generator models, including OpenAI’s Sora and competitors Runway ML’s Gen-2 and Pika 1.0.
This integration not only expands access to these AI tools but also promises to transform the video production process for Adobe’s vast Creative Cloud user base, which boasts over 33 million paying subscribers.
Imagine seamlessly blending live-action footage with AI-generated content within the same project. With this update, Premiere Pro users can edit traditional camera footage alongside AI-generated elements, offering endless creative possibilities. For instance, users can film a scene with an actor fleeing from a monster and then generate the monster itself using AI, all within the same editing environment.
According to Adobe, this update will empower professional video editors to leverage AI models for tasks like generating B-roll footage or extending shot durations.

While Adobe has yet to announce a specific timeline for the integration of these third-party AI video generators, the company’s commitment to responsible AI usage is evident. Adobe plans to provide transparency by attaching Content Credentials to assets produced within its applications, allowing users to understand how content was generated.
Additionally, Adobe is set to introduce Firefly for Video, offering new generative AI workflows and features. These include “Generative Extend,” which allows users to seamlessly add frames to clips, and “Object Detection & Removal,” enabling intelligent object manipulation within videos.
Early feedback from filmmakers and creatives has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing enthusiasm for the potential of AI-powered video editing tools to improve creativity.
